08-03-2008 POLICE STRIKE TORPEDOES AZ-FEYENOORD AGAIN
Sunday’s schedule trip Alkmaar has been postponed. The town’s mayor felt obliged to cancel the game between AZ and Feyenoord due to a strike by police unions ACP and ANPV. It means that there are not enough officers to police the match. A similar strike scuppered Feyenoord’s home match against AZ earlier in the season. ‘We are not a party to this conflict, but we have been pulled into it again,’ said Onno Jacobs on behalf of Feyenoord. ‘We find it disappointing that the police unions want to fight their battle over the backs of the clubs and the supporters. It costs the clubs a lot of money every time and ruins the football weekend of millions of fans.’ The KNVB has rearranged the fixture for Wednesday 12 March at 8 pm.
