Van Bronckhorst demands complete focus from fit squad
After the cup win against Ajax Feyenoord wasted no time focusing on the next league match, at ADO Den Haag on Sunday. The squad rested on Thursday, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst had them back for a training session at 10.30 on Friday morning ahead of the meeting with the club currently occupying fourteenth place in the Eredivisie.
The players were welcomed by a round of applause and encouragement when taking to the training pitch at Varkenoord. The win against Ajax was clearly appreciated by the fans. ‘The pleasure from a win like that stays with everyone for a while,’ said Van Bronckhorst. ‘It was a fiercely fought classic. We have taken out a little time to enjoy it and recover; now our full focus has to be on the match against ADO.’
In The Hague Van Bronckhorst hopes to continue the great start to the season and more specifically the second half performance against Ajax. ‘We lacked guts in the first half and we had no answer to Ajax’s game. The great thing about this team is that when things are not going for us we can turn it around and go on to win the match. We’ve shown that before and we got ourselves into the game more and more on Wednesday too.’
In search of the victory Feyenoord went all out against their arch rivals. Van Bronckhorst is fully aware that Sunday’s opponents ADO could have the same attitude. They will certainly want to give the Rotterdammers a tough afternoon. ‘They will do everything they can to beat us. Sunday should show us whether we are able to deal with that. In that respect this next match will be another good test for us.’
Van Bronckhorst is happy to note that the match against Ajax has not brought any injury concerns. ‘We have to wait until the final training session on Saturday, but there are no problems we have to take account of at the moment and everyone is fit.’
