Feyenoord ease past ADO Den Haag in charity match
Feyenoord beat ADO Den Haag 4-0 in the ‘Support Casper’ benefit match at De Kuip on Wednesday evening. The goals came courtesy of Jens Toornstra, Bilal Basaçikoglu, Sam Larsson and Dylan Vente.
Head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst had to do without nine internationals for the benefit match, but their replacements certainly stepped up to the plate. Feyenoord started brightly, creating a couple of openings early on, with Dylan Vente and Tyrell Malacia going close.
Jens Toornstra opened the scoring on 20 minutes. After some sloppy defensive work by ADO the ball fell at Toornstra’s feet. The midfielder made no mistake against his former club, beating keeper Indy Groothuizen with a shot into the right-hand side of the goal.
Ball through the legs
Bilal Basaçikoglu doubled the lead within a minute. More sloppy passing by the visitors presented Feyenoord with the ball. It came to Basaçikoglu, who made himself some space in the box and slid the ball through Groothuizen’s legs.
Back in the starting eleven after a hamstring injury, Sam Larsson looked to celebrate his return with a goal of his own. The Swede did have chances, but failed to convert the first two – a shot from distance and a strike from close in after Vente laid it off.
He had more luck with his third effort, though. Toornstra, Vente and Emil Hansson all played their part in the move, with the ball eventually coming to Larsson, who shot and scored to give the 25,000 Feyenoord fans another chance to stand up and cheer.
The fourth goal came after the break. Vente met a cross from substitute Joël Zwarts to score on 64 minutes. Under 19 player Zwarts was not the only Feyenoorder to come on to make his unofficial first-team debut. Boyd Reith, Noah Lewis and Daudé van der Kust also came on in the second half, with third-choice keeper Ramon ten Hove getting his chance as well.
In the end, then, Feyenoord won the match 4-0, but the real winner on the night was the ‘Support Casper’ campaign run by ‘Overleven met Alvleesklierkanker’, a charity that raises money for pancreatic cancer research. You can support Casper, too. Simply text CASPER to 4333 to donate €3.
