Feyenoord looking for strong performance against ADO
‘The only way we can get out of this poor run of form is by working hard,’ said Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Thursday night after the loss to sc Heerenveen, the fourth defeat on the bounce. The coach followed his own advice on the training pitch on Friday morning, where he began getting his squad ready for Sunday’s home match against ADO Den Haag.
Van Bronckhorst explained that the disappointment was dripping from the dressing room walls after Thursday’s loss. That’s understandable, but the coach does not want his players wallowing. ‘Because ADO are already coming up on Sunday. We have a chance against that side to gain revenge for the match against Heerenveen. For ourselves, but also for the supporters. I understand their disappointment and emotions.’
De Kuip is sold out for the sixteenth consecutive time for the match against ADO Den Haag. ‘That’s a great incentive for me and the players,’ Van Bronckhorst continued. ‘Sometimes a team needs a lift during a match. That might be a goal, like Anass Achahbar’s great strike against Heerenveen. We had a good period after that, but unfortunately we couldn’t kick on. The crowd can also give the players confidence if things are not going so well. So I know that the fans will get behind the team against ADO.’
Van Bronckhorst still believes in his team. ‘I keep saying we have a good squad. A squad with great desire, which I saw once again against Heerenveen. But it’s obvious that it’s not been clicking in recent weeks. We have to get our confidence back and you do that by winning on Sunday.’
Against ADO Den Haag Van Bronckhorst will again have Sven van Beek available, after his suspension against Heerenveen. It’s not yet clear whether Michiel Kramer and Marko Vejinovic, both of whom picked up injuries on Thursday night, will be able to play any part on Sunday. New buy Renato Tapia is not yet eligible.
