New deal agreed with De Vrij too

Stefan de Vrij has followed Jordy Clasie in signing a new contract with the club. The 21-year-old defender will sign a deal to stay at Feyenoord until mid 2015. De Vrij’s current contract was set to end midway through next year.

Technical director Martin van Geel is delighted that De Vrij has followed Clasie by pledging his future to Feyenoord. ‘It’s great that we have brought our talks with Stefan to a satisfactory end straight after the agreement with Jordy,’ says Van Geel. ‘These are two of the mainstays in our team, so we are very happy that they have extended their contracts with Feyenoord with an eye to next season.’

Like Clasie, De Vrij graduated from the Feyenoord youth academy after entering at the tenderest of ages. The central defender made his first team debut in December 2009 and has made 103 appearances in the Eredivisie over the past four seasons, scoring three goals. Last season Ronald Koeman made De Vrij captain. De Vrij also pulled on the orange jersey of the Dutch national team for the first time. He has since racked up five appearances in Dutch colours in all.
