Omar Elabdellaoui joins Feyenoord on loan

Feyenoord has added Omar Elabdellaoui to the squad ahead of the new season. The 20-year-old Norway youth international arrives at De Kuip on a one-year loan from Manchester City beginning immediately. Elabdellaoui can play on the right or the left up front or as an attacking midfielder.

Elabdellaoui is scheduled to arrive in the Netherlands in time for the Feyenoord Open Day on Sunday. He will be one of seven players to step out of the helicopter as part of the traditional presentation to the fans of the new additions to the squad.

Technical director Martin van Geel is pleased to wrap up the loan deal that brings Elabdellaoui to De Kuip.

‘Bearing in mind our busy programme, we need a big squad this season. We can make good use of Omar. He is a very talented player who can play in various positions.

‘Omar is technically skilful, mentally very strong and a hard worker. We are confident that he is a very good fit for Feyenoord.’

Manchester City signed Elabdellaoui from Norwegian club Skied in 2008. He returned to Norway in 2011 to play for Strømsgodset IF on loan. He made 12 appearances for the Drammen-based side before suffering an injury that cut short his stay.

The English champions took Elabdellaoui to its preseason training camp in Austria this summer. The youth international signed a new two-year contract with the Citizens during the trip.

Elabdellaoui has played for various Norway youth teams, often alongside Harmeet Singh, another member of the 2012/13 Feyenoord first-team squad.
