KARIM EL AHMADI LIKELY SIDELINED FOR THREE WEEKS

Karim El Ahmadi is likely to be unavailable for the next three weeks. The midfielder was twisted his ankle in Morocco’s friendly against Angola Tuesday evening after being kicked. El Ahmadi returned to Rotterdam Wednesday with a swollen ankle and was examined at Erasmus MC on Thursday, when an X-ray was also taken. That showed the Moroccan international had broken nothing, but he had torn an ankle ligament. El Ahmadi will now miss the matches against FC Volendam and Heracles. His availability for the match against former club FC Twente is not looking good either.

‘First and foremost I’m happy the ankle ligament is not completely torn,’ said El Ahmadi. ‘If you’d seen the tackle you would know it could have been a lot worse. It was a vicious kick, so it’s a relief that there’s no great damage. Then again, obviously it’s lousy to have to miss games in this crucial phase. There was improvement both personally and team-wise. But I’m very confident that the team will continue to improve and that we will continue to win games. We feel strong. Yes, it’s a shame that it will be very difficult to make the FC Twente game, it’s a very special game for me, of course. I still have a little hope, but the most important thing is that my ankle heals properly.’
