FEYENOORD EXTEND SCHET CONTACT TO MID 2010

Feyenoord extended Mitchell Schet’s stay with the club by an extra season at De Kuip Friday morning. The 21-year-old is now contracted to the club until the summer of 2010 after Feyenoord took up an option on an extra year. ‘This means a lot to me,’ said the talented striker, who was accompanied by his mother and agent Winnie Haatrecht. ‘It is a sign of the club’s confidence, but I don’t really want to say so much about it. I want to show what I can do on the pitch.’

‘My goal is still the Feyenoord first team,’ continued Schet. ‘I want to achieve that step by step. I’m not looking too far ahead.’ Schet was named in the first-team squad a couple of times at the start of this season, coming on as a substitute against PSV in the Johan Cruijff Shield and against Ajax in the league at De Kuip.

General manager Eric Gudde expressed his belief that Schet would clock up many more appearances for Feyenoord. ‘We are very confident that Mitchell will assert himself within the foreseeable future and we are happy to be able to underscore that confidence with this contract. Mitchell’s contract extension fit in with the policy of giving young lads a chance.’

Schet joined Feyenoord as a 17-year-old from FC Utrecht in the summer of 2005. He started his career at CTO ‘70 in Duivendrecht, moving to Abcoude before spending four seasons at FC Utrecht prior to his switch to De Kuip.
