'We hugely regret the course of events and have taken this decision with great reluctance,' said general manager Eric Gudde. 'Under Peter Bosz a process has been put in motion that is expected to bring Feyenoord back to where our club belongs. We were confident that in Gertjan we had appointed the ideal coach to guide that process. Unfortunately we now have to say that the chemistry needed in the partnership between Verbeek and some of the playing staff was lacking. In football it is a law that if a large part of the playing staff do not want to continue with the coach you have irrevocably reached the point where there is no alternative but to appoint a new man to take charge of the squad. But Gertjan absolutely did not deserve this, that is clear.'
'We also enormously regret the departure of Peter Bosz and Wim Jansen,' continued Gudde. 'We believe in the path we have marked out for the club. In our capacity as the management we felt that the basis was there to continue the relationship. Wim and Peter are true Feyenoord people, stewards of the culture with a huge amount of footballing know-how and advocates of our youth. Unfortunately Peter and Wim both felt that their position was untenable. We will fill the gap left by their departure as carefully as possible.'
