In its 100 year history Feyenoord Rotterdam has won three major European trophies: the Champions’ Cup (currently known as Champions League) in 1970 and the UEFA Cup in both 1974 and 2002. Each victory was proceeded by a thrilling final, that left the Rotterdam fans with memories to treasure. What better way to celebrate the 100 year anniversary then with a chance to relive the great memories of the past?
Feyenoord and Celtic met in the 1970 final of the Champions’ Cup. After their 1967 win in Lisbon, Celtic were favourites to win, but after extra time Feyenoord prevailed. Nevertheless, the Milan encounter was a highlight in the history of both clubs as fans fraternised on the Duomo square. Since then, there is a historical link between the Hoops and Feyenoord that has only been strengthened by players and coaches who worked for both teams like Henrik Larsson, Wim Jansen, Regi Blinker, Bob Petta and Evander Sno.
Over the years Tottenham Hotspur and Feyenoord have also had some legendary encounters. In all the clubs have met four times in all three European Cup tournaments. Both the Spurs and Feyenoord have come out victorious twice, the Rotterdam outfit winning the most important duel between the two: the UEFA Cupfinal of 1974. Nevertheless, the legendary Feyenoord stadium is still the place where Tottenham after a 5-1 thrashing of Atletico Madrid won one of its most important prizes: the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963.
Fans of the British outfits can also look forward to some other great clashes at the Feyenoord Jubilee tournament, with European giants Borussia Dortmund completing the four team line-up. A match schedule for the Feyenoord Jubilee Tournament will be published within the next month. Ticket sales can be purchased through the participating teams only.
