Feyenoord have signed Michael Jansen. The 23 year old was available after former club Vitesse cancelled his contract. The Rotterdammers plan to loan out Jansen for the next six months. ‘This is a slice of luck for us,’ explained Peter Bosz. ‘Michael is an exceptionally talented player who has been sidelined by bad fortune for a long time. He’s now fully recovered from his heart problems. We will give him the chance to prove himself again at the highest level.’ Jansen has penned a six-month deal, with an option to add a further three years to his stay at De Kuip.

Michael Jansen made his debut at Vitesse aged 18. The left-footed defender impressed enough to be commanding a regular starting place before he turned 20. By May 2005 Jansen was being considered for an international call-up, and a host of major clubs were tracking him. His progression was stopped in its tracks however when he was diagnosed with arrhythmia.

Jansen spent two years in treatment and rehab programmes before being given the green light to resume his playing career last summer. Jansen has trained with Vitesse all season, but a persistent difference of opinion on how he should deal with his medical problems ultimately caused the parties to go their separate ways.
