PATRICK LODEWIJKS SLATED FOR SURGERY

Patrick Lodewijks will be unavailable for selection before next year after the keeper was slated for surgery on his meniscus. Lodewijks has been troubled by his knee since early November. The hope was that rest would clear up the problem but things have not panned out that way and in consultation with the medical staff the keeper has decided that an operation is the best option. There was also good news on the keeper front however, with third-choice goalie Sherif Ekramy likely to be on the bench a week on Sunday when Feyenoord travel to FC Utrecht.

Ekramy is as good as recovered from the shoulder injury that has troubled him for months. The unavailability of both Lodewijks and Ekramy for the last eight matches has meant that youth keeper Erwin Mulder has been a regular on the bench. He will continue to deputise for Henk Timmer for the visit of ADO Den Haag at De Kuip this Sunday.

Erwin Koeman is unwilling to speculate on when Lodewijks could return to fitness. ‘He may be missing for five to six weeks. But it’s hard to estimate. Patrick is not among the youngest of course,’ said the Feyenoord coach about the 39-year-old keeper.
