Dirk Kuyt made it clear that he’s ready for the season with Feyenoord in Friday’s win at AGOVV and the striker’s performance drew complimentary words from coach Erwin Koeman. ‘With Dirk in the team, the rest play better too. He gives Feyenoord something extra, something he underlined again today.’ Kuyt himself was happy to oblige. ‘For me it was clear, but I don’t think anyone can now say that I’m not happy here at Feyenoord.’
Kuyt was forthright when asked how he had experienced a hectic week. With the rumour mill operating at full tilt, to some the player’s transfer out of Rotterdam is inevitable and impending. The striker sees things differently. ‘For me the situation is clear, as it is for the club. We’ve had a good week, which has been rounded off with a good match. When it comes to my own situation, I am unfortunately unable to give any clarity, as exasperating as that is for the supporters. The appreciation I felt this evening is not new to me, it’s been like that for years. My feeling about Feyenoord is positive, but people know that.’
‘The club has given me the opportunity to take a longer rest. That is now paying dividends. I’m fit and I feel great. It was a brilliant feeling to score straight away. The team deserves the credit. It’s gradually starting to grow, which resulted in this win. It was a nice way to round off the training camp.’
