NEW TWIST IN KALOU NATURALISATION SAGA

Aliens Affairs and Integration Minister Verdonk has decided to appeal the 9 December ruling of the Rotterdam court in the Salomon Kalou case. The appeal is expected to be formally lodged Friday although any such move will not suspend the court’s ruling. That ruling was that the minister must issue a new decision on the player’s fast-track citizenship application by 22 January 2006. It therefore looks likely that that the two sides will meet in court again before that date. .

The minister can also ask for the Rotterdam court’s ruling to be suspended pending the outcome of her appeal.

Kalou’s legal counsel Jelle Kroes expressed his disappointment in the minister’s actions, but declined to give further comment as long as the case is pending.
