There were clear words from Erwin Koeman and Dirk Kuyt at the presentation of the first-team squad and technical staff at the club’s Open Day Wednesday. Both coach and captain expressed their thanks to the supporters. ‘All honour to the Legion; this is only possible in Rotterdam,’ said Koeman in response to the mass ranks of enthusiastic fans. Kuyt: ‘Not we, but you are responsible for Feyenoord being the biggest and finest club in Holland.’
The presentation of the squad and technical staff was the highlight of the Open Day as per tradition. The fans came to De Kuip in their tens of thousands again to give a warm welcome to the personnel. That enthusiasm was rewarded with words of thanks from the technical staff and from Kuyt. The top scorer took the mike say a few words. ‘First of all I want to thank you all for being here once more. We had a disappointing season last year that we have to forget fast. But we cannot do that without the supporters, because you are the strength of Feyenoord. I would very much like to see you again this Sunday [in the friendly against Hertha BSC]. We need you a lot this season.’
‘I have experienced a few things, but never this,’ said Erwin Koeman. ‘Hopefully it won’t be the last time I experience it, because it feels fantastic to see 45,000 people in the stadium at the Open Day. All honour to the Legion; this is only possible in Rotterdam. Against Hertha it’s important to see where we are. Because it’s about us satisfying the people. The supporters have earned that.’
