Feyenoord beat the amateurs of Barendrecht 0-3 Friday evening. Erwin Koeman’s team went in goalless at the break, but second half goals by Ali Boussaboun, Leonardo and Nicky Hofs won the game for the Rotterdammers. Dirk Kuyt was given his first game of preseason, partnering Castelen and Kalou in the first period. Pascal Bosschaart was forced out of the game after only 25 minutes with a hamstring injury.
In his second game in a Feyenoord jersey Ali Boussaboun once more put in an energetic performance. In Raalte he rounded off his debut with a fine individual goal and in Barendrecht he also found the back of the net. Hossam Ghaly put the Moroccan international through with his back to goal, but a fine turn and drive saw the ball end up in the net for Feyenoord’s opener. By the time the goal came Kalou, Paauwe and Kuyt were all watching from the bench. The trio had all gone close to scoring in the opening half. After the Moroccan it was down to the Serb Danko Lazovic to grab the second on 77 minutes, but he spurned the chance, blasting well over. Not long after the Rotterdammers did manage to double their lead however, when Leonardo scored from the left side of the penalty area. Nicky Hofs knocked in the third a minute! from time.
’Despite the fact that we pulled away to 3-0 I’m not happy with the way we did it,’ said Koeman post-match. ‘It was a tough game against a very defensive opponent. That meant that it was also an instructive game and so good to see.’
