BORUSSIA DORTMUND MAKE EBI STAY PERMANENT

Ebi Smolarek has sealed a permanent move to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, after a successful loan period. The two clubs agreed the deal Monday and the 24-year-old is likely to sign a four-season contract with the German outlet currently coached by ex-Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk. ‘I am very happy with the transfer,’ confirmed Smolarek. ‘I feel very at home in Dortmund. I never thought I would adapt so fast abroad. The players have taken me into their social lives.’

Smolarek came through the youth academy at Varkenoord to follow in the footsteps of his father Wlodi on 2 November 2000 when he made his first-team debut for Feyenoord. The fan’s favourite played 87 competitive matches for the club, bagging 13 goals. But he fell by the wayside this season and jumped at the chance of first-team football in the Ruhr.

‘At Feyenoord I no longer had any prospects. The coach opted for someone else. I accepted that. Of course that’s a pity, because I was raised at Varkenoord. Feyenoord is my club. But I didn’t want my development to stagnate any longer. This is the best solution.’
