Head of the youth academy Henk van Stee has extended his contract until the summer of 2008. The arrival of Stanley Brard as a coordinator for the academy and head of youth scouting means that Van Stee now has more opportunities to get involved in on-the-pitch activities at Varkenoord. ‘The extension of the contract expresses a lot of appreciation from Feyenoord,’ says Van Stee, who was recently linked with a move across the city to take over the helm at Sparta.
‘I’m happy I don’t have to think about my future anymore. Sparta’s offer was an honour, but I’m happy that Feyenoord have shown they don’t want to lose me.’
Feyenoord’s technical director Mark Wotte also admitted to being delighted with the way negotiations have gone. ‘Henk has only been back at Varkenoord for a year. I can imagine that he needed time to think over the options he had. It was certainly a challenge for him to be the main coach at Sparta. At the end of the day he played there. But on the other hand he knew that Feyenoord was satisfied with his work and we are honest about that. The extension of his contract has already been discussed internally. We’ve just accelerated everything now.’
