Feyenoord booked a place in the semifinals of the Amstel Cup with a relatively easy win against NAC at De Kuip Thursday. Despite the wintry conditions the home side waltzed past the Breda outfit with two goals each for front duo Kalou and Kuyt. The tie also marked the official debut of André Bahia, who came on as a substitute to play the last fifteen minutes. Feyenoord now take on PSV at De Kuip in the semifinal on 20 April. Ajax travel to Willem II in the other semi.

The evening started emotionally at De Kuip with a minute’s silence for the father of Dutch football, Rinus Michels, who passed away Thursday morning.
Feyenoord met a NAC side in search of form but certainly up for a cup run. The visitors showed a lot of desire in the opening period and lone striker Lurling looked dangerous on the counter on his return to his old stomping ground.
Gullit’s team tried to be patient and play it by ear but the chances came sporadically early on. Kuyt was the first to threaten, although keeper Schollen was up to the task. That was after fifteen minutes. Hofs was next to take a pop – from a free kick – and then Goor grazed the bar with a header. At the other end Lurling got himself in a serious position but Feyenoord had a clear grip on the game.
The Rotterdammers finally managed to get the goal their dominance deserved as the half wound down. Kuyt and Kalou had some luck not to be hauled up for offside, but without a flag in sight the duo raced almost unhindered in the direct of the Breda goal. Kalou looked likely to lay the ball off to his strike partner, but in the end he elected to finish what he’d started, slotting home coolly.
The second hadn’t been going long before Feyenoord doubled their lead. And it was another slice of good fortune that helped them along when Castelen was brought down in the box. Referee Temmink took some time out to consult with his assistant before pointing to the spot. Dirk Kuyt stepped up to the mark and put his thing down: it was 2-0 and effectively game over.
NAC lost the thread after that, as Feyenoord started to unwind. Kalou added a third before the hour with a startling shot that startled keeper Schollen most of all when it hit the back of the net.
And there was even time for Dirk Kuyt to pull up alongside his upfront partner in terms of goals in the last minute to make it four.
