SAFETY MEASURES AUGMENTED AT DE KUIP

Feyenoord versus RBC Roosendaal will see the return of netting behind the goals at De Kuip. The step is Feyenoord’s swift and vigorous response to the incidents that marred the week’s home match against Sporting Lisbon. The club will also deploy more stewards along the length of the pitch on both sides and introduce an even stricter frisking policy at stadium access points. The measures will remain in force until all individuals responsible for throwing fireworks and other objects onto the field of play during the Uefa Cup tie have been arrested.

‘As so often, the good supporters suffer under a few bad ones, but we are really sick and tired of it,’ declared board member Jan Willem van Dop. ‘It is sad, but we are forced to take steps to prevent a repeat. We can no longer permit Feyenoord to be the victim. The measures will therefore remain in force until the offenders have been caught.’
