Thomas Buffel’s long association with Feyenoord was over Wednesday evening when the Belgian international sealed a switch to Glasgow Rangers, according to the Scottish club’s official website. The 23-year-old striker has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Gers. Buffel admitted his joy at the transfer, after failing to make his mark at De Kuip this campaign due to the blistering form of young Salomon Kalou. ‘It is one of Europe’s big clubs and it’s a step up for me. I’m delighted with that.’
The transfer means that Buffel is available for the weekend’s Old Firm Tennents Scottish Cup tussle at Celtic Park. ‘I’m ready for it, but it depends on what the coach wants of course.’
Buffel came to Feyenoord as a teenager and first made his mark in a two-year stint at Excelsior, before returning to De Kuip. He has notched
32 goals for the Rotterdammers.
