THOMAS BUFFEL REJECTS IMPROVED CONTRACT

Thomas Buffel has informed the club through his agents that he is not interested in signing an extension to his current De Kuip deal. The international – identified as the best of his generation by Belgian legend Enzo Scifo – has found himself behind Dirk Kuyt and Salomon Kalou in the Feyenoord pecking order this season. The 23-year-old’s contract runs to mid-2006. ‘Feyenoord is now waiting for interested clubs,’ confirmed Technical Director Mark Wotte, who is disappointed at the stance taken by the player.

Buffel became a first-team regular under Bert van Marwijk after the departure of Jon-Dahl Thomasson, but due to Kalou’s breakthrough he’s found himself on the bench most of this season.
