Feyenoord recorded a 4-3 win at PEC Zwolle on match day 28 in the Eredivisie on Sunday. No Eredivisie fixtures are schedule...
Feyenoord get back to league business Sunday after their Hungarian sojourn with three points the objective at any cost. Against NAC Breda at De Kuip ‘only the points are important,’ says Ruud Gullit. The draw in Budapest looks to have got the Maassiders back on track after last week’s setback in Alkmaar, but it will be interesting to note how their European commitments have affected their legs. They’ll have to do it without Romeo Castelen too. The forward is ruled out with a hamstring injury.
As well as Romeo Castelen, the Rotterdammers will be without Chong-Gug Song and Pascal Bosschaart against a Breda side that that includes ex-Feyenoorders Collen and Lurling. Song and Bosschaart will be sitting out the first game of a three-match ban after both saw red last week in Alkmaar.
Castelen’s absence was less expected. The attacker picked up a hamstring injury in Budapest and was forced out of the tie ten minutes into the second half. Karim Saidi was also hurt in the game, but he looks fit enough to take the field Sunday after all.
Otherwise, Gianni Zuiverloon looks a good bet to take over from the Korean, while Hossam Ghaly will most likely take Bosschaart’s place. Since being eligible to play after a suspension of his own Ghaly has been warming the bench, apart from a starting palace against Odd Grenland. So it’s the Egyptians chance to show that he’s learning his lessons under Gullit. The coach will respond to a good performance, as Patrick Mtiliga will testify. The Dane lost his place to Bruno Basto at the start of the season, but some patchy performances by the Portuguese in recent weeks have led Gullit to leave him out of the last three starting elevens.
Castelen’s replacement looks like being Thomas Buffel. Ebi Smolarek is also in the running, but the Belgian appears to have the edge over his Polish teammate after playing well against Ferencvaros.
