GULLIT STANDS UP FOR GABOR

Just arrived in the country, Ruud Gullit wasted no time making a case for Gabor Babos’s return to the Hungarian national team in Budapest Wednesday. The Feyenoord coach was at pains to explain the keeper’s motives for asking for some time off from national duty. According to Gullit, Babos’s plea has been ‘wrongly interpreted’ in Hungary. ‘He just wanted time to adapt. He has done that now. That’s why Gabor has said he would love to play for Hungary again now, if he were to get the opportunity.’

‘You have to understand that Gabor has made the switch from a small club to a big club,’ explained Gullit. ‘He has had to get used to a whole new way of working and to a much more intensive way of training. At NAC he was used to catching eight out of ten balls with a dive and he could let in the other two if necessary. With us he gets a lot less to do, but he has to stop the few balls that he does get. That’s the big difference. When you’re the Feyenoord keeper you really have to concentrate for ninety minutes.’
