GULLIT DELIGHTED WITH TEMPERED STRENGTH

Coach Gullit was pleased to secure three points in commanding fashion against Hearts to open Feyenoord’s Uefa Cup Group A campaign. ‘The fighting spirit we showed in doing so was excellent. Hearts started playing with four strikers at one point and it was one on one all over the pitch. We solved that with spirit and I’m very happy with that. We deserved to win.’ Feyenoord have taken an early lead in the Group, after Schalke 04 and FC Basel played out a 1-1 draw. Feyenoord’s next opponents Ferencvaros had a night off.

Gullit confirmed he was ‘very satisfied’ with Gianni Zuiverloon, who made his first official start for the club in the game. ‘From the beginning of the season I’ve had a good feeling about Gianni. I now felt that this was his time. He was not prepared for it and was obviously nervous. He was a little unsure early on, but he recovered. Over the whole ninety minutes he did very well.’
