‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Pascal Boschaart feels that Feyenoord have to be happy with the draw for the UEFA Cup group phase. ‘It is a favourable group, with attractive teams and we have a good chance of progressing. Schalke appears to me to be the most difficult opponent.’ The top three teams advance from the five-club group and with Hearts and Schalke drawn to come to De Kuip, the midfielder feels that a top-three finish must be doable. In fact, he expects more than that.
‘We have the highest coefficient and are the seeded team. But we must not underestimate anyone. Schalke is a top club in Germany and FC Basel did very well in the Champions League recently. I don’t know anything about Ferencvaros and all I know about Hearts is that the Dutchman Mark de Vries plays there. In any event it’s a nice group and we have a big chance of getting through.’
Romeo Castelen agrees that the Maassiders have a good shot at advancement. ‘Schalke is maybe the most difficult, because it’s a top club in a tough league. But we mustn’t underestimate FC Basel. They made life difficult for Barcelona at home. I expect a lot of Hearts too. They are a strong opponent, a typical Scottish team. I only know Ferencvaros by name. It is a strong group with great games. I’m looking forward to it.’
