‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Ruud Gullit was a pleased man after Feyenoord’s 4-1 victory against Odd Grenland. ‘It was a good win and I’m happy that we’ve got through to the next round. As I’m also happy that all Dutch clubs made it to the next round tonight and yesterday. That is important for Dutch football. In my opinion it was a positive week for us, a week we have to cherish.'
Gullit was happy with the number of chances his team created. ‘On the bench we counted six stonewall chances. And I’m not even including the four goals. It was just a pity that we were not always concentrated in terms of our finishing. Like we lost concentration in some periods of the game, although I do think we recovered every time.’
The coach was less amused by the way Odd Grenland got themselves a goal at the start of the second half, when Occean was given a sea of space by the Rotterdam defenders. ‘The way the goal came about was not good,’ said Gullit. ‘It was an attack down the middle and that’s not permissible of course. So I’d like to see the goal again on the video to see exactly where things went wrong.’
The draw for the group stages of the competition is set for early next week, but Gullit doesn’t have any preferences. ‘I’ll wait and see on Tuesday.’
