HOSSAM HOOKING UP WITH EGYPT

Hossam Ghaly has been called up to the Egypt squad for the 8 October World Cup qualifier against North African neighbours Libya. Egypt are currently locked in a desperate struggle for supremacy in a group headed by Ivory Coast on nine points, followed by the Pharaohs, Libya and Cameroon, all on seven. The player is set to travel to Cairo after the 3 October league match against FC Den Bosch. The Eredivisie’s weekend sabbatical means Ghaly does not need to miss any Feyenoord fixtures.

The Egyptians boosted their prospects without the suspended Ghaly by taming the indomitable lions of Cameroon with a 3-2 victory two weeks ago. ‘I give us a good chance of getting through,’ declares the midfielder. ‘We first play away in Libya and then we play the next game against them at home. If we win both its a move in the right direction.’
