‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Peter van den Berg signed for Vitesse Tuesday evening and will now hook up with former Feyenoord team-mate Anthony Lurling at the Gelredome. The 32-year-old put his signature to a two-year contract with the Arnhem outfit, with an option on a third year. Van den Berg has mixed feelings about the switch. ‘Vitesse a great club, but I would have liked to have served out my time at Feyenoord. But when you’re third choice, you have to make the best of it.’
Peter van den Berg arrived in Rotterdam in the summer of 2003, playing 25 games in a strong first season. But the signing of Karim Saidi and the return of Glenn Loovens this summer put the defender way back in the pecking order at De Kuip.
‘I’m not part of the coach’s plans so a departure is the best thing for all concerned. I have mixed feelings about it, because Feyenoord is still my club. It will always be in my heart and it is difficult to say farewell. But I want to play and I can no longer do that here.’
