‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Uruguay’s Mateo Andres Corbo and Portugal’s Bruno Basto hook up with Feyenoord for a two-day trial Wednesday and Thursday. The 26-year-old Corbo plays for Olimpia Asunción, a club in the top division back in the homeland. Also 26, Basto has a contract at French highfliers Girondins Bordeaux, where he has held down a first-team place for five seasons. Both left-sided defenders are available on free transfers. The transfer window is set to shut 31 August.
Feyenoord have been looking to sign a player to fill the position on the left of defence since the summer. Argentina’s Mariano Fernandez was tested but allowed to leave.
Basto joined Benfica back in 1997 before switching to Bordeaux in 2000. Corbo has played for River Plate (Uruguay), Real Oviedo (Spain) and Barnsley (England).
