‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Peter van den Berg has been told by coach Ruud Gullit that he cannot expect a lot of pitch time this season and will be allowed to leave. A loan move would not be acceptable to the club, ‘but Feyenoord will take a flexible attitude if a club shows serious interest,’ confirmed technical director Mark Wotte. The defender has already attracted interest from a clutch of Eredivisie clubs. His contract runs until mid-2005, with an extra twelve-month option.
‘I saw it coming, but obviously I’m sick’, says Van den Berg. ‘I don’t need to leave. But if I end up as third choice here there’s little use staying. I have mixed feelings. I just want to play. If I can’t, hopefully I can somewhere else.’
Van den Berg arrived at De Kuip last year, notching up 25 league starts in the 2003/4 season.
