Mariano Bombarda has signed a two-year deal with Spanish top-flighters Tenerife. The 31-year-old Argentinean leaves Rotterdam after two years at De Kuip. The interest from the Iberian Peninsula came as a bolt out of the blue for the player. Bombarda had been contacted by Greek club Panionios and a club in the United Arab Emirates, but really wanted to return to a Spanish speaking country. ‘Greece is also a fantastic country to live, but I just didn’t fancy the adventure,’ admitted Bombarda. ‘You never know what’s in store.’
The attraction of living on a tropical island was just too tempting for Bombarda. ‘It looks like a great challenge and a great life for me and my family.’ The Spanish club’s website states that the player will be jetting into Tenerife sometime this week to pen the deal.
Mariano Bombarda has represented FC Groningen, FC Metz, FC Groningen (again), Willem II and Feyenoord. He has notched 101 goals in almost 250 games.
