Feyenoord have signed Mark Otten from NEC. The youth international, whose contract in Nijmegen ends in the summer, put his signature to a 3+2-year deal. The defender cum midfielder will wear the shirt of Excelsior next season. 'Mark is a mentally strong lad for the future,' says technical manager Wotte. 'We have been watching him for years and he now has to show he is ready to play at Feyenoord-level at Excelsior.'
The 18-year-old is delighted to have signed for his first love Feyenoord.
'Finally. Feyenoord is the greatest club in the Netherlands, a club of the
people. And they have a fantastic stadium, where football is experienced as
it should be.'
Otten was in great demand, but there was only really one club in with a
chance of landing him. 'Feyenoord have known about me for a long time and
now that I was a free agent it was easier to get me. And if this club comes
in for you, you don't need to think twice. You may never get that chance
Otten made his NEC debut last month against NAC in his first season as a
first-team player. 'I was doing well in Nijmegen. I could have stayed at
NEC, but I wasn't satisfied with the contract they offered me. I was offered
a year, which I felt was too short. But I had a fantastic time at NEC.'
