Feyenoord is delighted to announce that it has a new exclusive main sponsor as from the 2004/2005 season: Fortis. The two parties signed a three-year deal Thursday, which includes an option on a two-year extension. The deal covers shirt sponsoring of the first team and sponsorship of the Sportclub Feyenoord for the same period. No financial details have been announced.

Fortis wants to increase awareness of its brand among the general public and has chosen to do so through one club: Feyenoord. Feyenoord has won a series of major prizes with current sponsor Stad Rotterdam Verzekeringen and has made no secret of its desire to find a partner with international ambition and an international profile. That makes the Fortis/Feyenoord hook-up so seamless. Feyenoord chairman Jorien van den Herik: ‘We are delighted to continue our relationship with Fortis, which has been ongoing for years, because it allows Stad Rotterdam Verzekeringen to also continue to be involved with our club. Fortis has the ambition to be a leading financial services provider in the Netherlands as it is in Belgium. Feyenoord will do its utmost to support Fortis in that ambition.’ Anton van Rossum, Chief Executive Officer of Fortis: ‘Feyenoord has a top position at international level in the popular sport of football. That makes it attractive to Fortis to act as main sponsor and so help develop our name familiarity among a large public. In addition, we identify with the club’s friendly image.’ The agreement brings to an end a thirteen period in which Stad Rotterdam Verzekeringen was main sponsor of Feyenoord. In that period the insurance company has realised its name awareness objectives and more.
