Feyenoord came for behind for the second time in four days to take all three points at De Goffert stadium Wednesday. The Rotterdammers went in to the break a goal down to Johan Neeskeens’s NEC, but second half strikes by Kuyt and Buffel handed the visitors the second victory in the second post-winter break fixture in snowy Nijmegen.

Feyenoord started the game in the same formation as Sunday, so Danko Lazovic had to do with a place on the bench despite a two-goal haul at the weekend. The visitors had the balance of play on a white carpet of fresh snow and created a number of good opportunities to open the scoring. The first came on six minutes, but Buffel couldn’t keep Kuyt’s cross down. Pardo had the next chance, but his shot was stopped by Gentenaar. NEC had shown little up front when Schuurman released Niedzielan in the 22nd minute. The Pole didn’t waste time thinking about the lack of a good dress rehearsal however, lobbing Lodewijks to give the home side the lead. Feyenoord recovered relatively quickly and might have equalised before the break. It was Buffel again who was in the thick of things, this time the pass was Song’s, but the Belgian’s effort sailed over again. The goal finally came three minutes into the second period, Kuyt sweeping home Van Persie’s cross. Nine minutes later things got even rosier for the Rotterdammer’s when Buffel finally got his goal, after Kuyt extended with his head to wrap up the points for Bert van Marwijk’s men.
