Danko Lazovic came off the bench to knock in two late goals as Feyenoord turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 win over FC Utrecht at De Kuip Sunday. The Serb scored his first within seconds of being thrown on as an impact sub by coach Van Marwijk and then promptly handed Feyenoord all three points with a second strike just two minutes later in the first Eredivisie match of the new year.

Feyenoord started unconvincingly and while a goal may have come earlier, FC Utrecht finally took the lead midway through the half. Van de Haar raced onto a high ball and got between Van Wonderen and Paauwe before finding Tanghe. The Belgian gave Lodewijks no chance, netting the opening goal. Two minutes later the news got worse as Leitoe took advantage of chaos in the Rotterdam defence to double the visitors’ lead. Fortunately, Feyenoord were able to get a goal back relatively swiftly; Buffel latching onto a long ball to score. The goal gave Feyenoord something to work on and the home side went about things with a lot more confidence in the second half. The chances began to flow too, with Smolarek, Van Persie and even Song all going close. The Korean had a difficult hour, but started to improve as the second period drew on. Van Marwijk decided he needed fresh blood on the pitch with less than fifteen left on the clock, bringing on Lazovic for Van Persie. The Serb repaid the trust placed in him within seconds, falling in the area under an illegial challenge by Touzani, who picked up his second yellow of the afternoon as a consequence. Ten-men FC Utrecht looked to have escaped however, when Kuyt missed his second penalty in succession, but Lazovic was alert enough to pounce on the rebound first and slide the ball home. Life got even better for the home team two minutes later, when Schreuder’s corner kick found the head of the Serb, who nodded in the third. Feyenoord were suddenly rampant and Van Haaren lashed in a drive that thudded against the post, but the game ended without any further scoring.
