The amateurs of Vlaardingen started the match quite brightly and although Feyenoord took the lead through Smolarek, after a Van Persie slalom through the home team’s defence, Delta Sport were back on level terms within a minute after sloppy rearguard work.
But when Lazovic scored Feyenoord’s second after a quarter of an hour the tide turned in the Eredivisie team’s favour. The Serb had a fine game, spraying passes and exploring every inch of the pitch. The third goal was his too, heading in an Ebi Smolarek cross and he also had a hand in Schreuder’s fourth. Van Persie rattled in a fifth in injury time.
Feyenoord powered through the second period, scoring nine goals in the process. Lazovic’s performance was rivalled by Smolarek, who knocked in two second half strikes. The centre of the home defence lost its shape and Feyenoord waltzed through time after time. Substitute Dirk Kuyt finished off the show with three late goals.
