MOSCOW MEET WASHED OUT

Heavy rain on Turkey’s south coast led to the postponement of Feyenoord’s opening fixture in the Antalya tournament against Dynamo Moscow Saturday evening. The heavens opened in the afternoon, depositing so much water on the playing surface that the game had to be called off at the last minute. Weather permitting the game will now be played Sunday afternoon on the training pitch adjacent to the team hotel.

The two teams reached the stadium through the blanket a rain and did start warming up, despite the unpromising conditions. But it didn’t take long for the decision to be made to cancel the match. ‘They have a great pitch here,’ said assistant coach John Metgod, ‘but after an afternoon of heavy rain you cannot play on it. All that water makes the ball do some funny things, which makes it dangerous to play here this evening.’
