LUCKY 13 FOR VAN HAAREN?

Coach Van Marwijk has named Ramon van Haaren in his squad ahead of Saturday’s Eredivisie match against Vitesse. The left back played his last game in the Champions League tussle with Dynamo Kiev thirteen months ago, when he picked up a knee injury. Since then it’s been over a year of pain, disappointment and hard work for the defender. ‘He could play tomorrow,’ revealed Van Marwijk Friday. Sebastián Pardo also hooks up with the squad.

Van Haaren’s return is a boost to Van Marwijk. The defender was set to make his comeback in the UEFA Cup match at home to Teplice, but suffered a reaction that has kept him on the sidelines these past few weeks. To make matters worse, the layoff has coincided with Gérard de Nooijer’s knee injury, which continues to keep him out of the picture. As a result, the Feyenoord coach is left with only one player – Ferne Snoyl – for the left back position. Sebastián Pardo’s selection comes on the back of some exemplary work on the training pitch and in the reserve team, including a huge share in Thursday’s 7-1 trouncing of RKC reserves. ‘He is on the way back,’ declared Van Marwijk. ‘He’s a great footballer and he’s feeling good. It’s time to welcome him back.’
