LACK OF CLARITY ON ACUÑA INJURY

It’s not yet clear how much progress Kike Acuña is making as the player attempts to shake off a hamstring injury in his homeland. The midfielder has worked on his rehab in Chile for the past ten days. Acuña’s injury was serious enough to keep him out of his country’s World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay. The two games were both lost by Chile, which cannot now make the next World Cup in Germany 2006.

Club doctor Van Linschoten is unsurprised that Acuña was unable to play in the two international fixtures. ‘We already expected he wouldn’t be able to play. That sort of injury needs a week or two, provided he’s had the right therapy. I don’t know how Acuña has been treated in Chile and how fit he is now. We’ll take a closer look when he returns to Rotterdam this week.’
