Another two league points were dropped by Feyenoord in Limburg early Sunday afternoon, as the Rotterdammers drew 1-1 with Roda JC in the Eredivisie. The visitors took an early lead through Dirk Kuyt, but allowed the home side to level before the break. And despite a number of good opportunities in the second half the game ended all square. Coach Bert van Marwijk will also be concerned about Robin van Persie, after the youngster limped out of the game in the first half with ankle trouble.

Feyenoord got a dream start with an opening goal within three minutes. Buffel received from Kuyt and looked like scoring, but keeper Kujovic kept the ball out. The resulting corner was swung in by Van Persie and Kuyt met it beautifully to volley into the net. Feyenoord sucked up strength from the goal and took a strong grip on the match. There were chances for the second too, with Shinji Ono at the heart of things more often than not. The international set up both Buffel and Kuyt with intelligent through balls, but the score remained one-nil. The home side were lacking that cutting edge, so Feyenoord were looking quite comfortable, but that all changed on 35 minutes. Substitute Sergio was allowed room for a shot and his effort flew past Zoetebier for the leveller. The equaliser put Feyenoord under pressure as the home side upped the pace. The cause was not helped by an ankle injury to Van Persie, who was forced off. Lurling replaced him. A chance did come Feyenoord’s way before the break though. Kuyt sent in a fine cross deep in stoppage time and it looked as though Ono would tap the ball home, but the Japanese was unable to control the ball and the chance was gone. Half-time was welcomed by Feyenoord, who could regroup for the second half. The visitors were unable to get the upper hand after the break either however, and the chances were few and far between. Roda were just as blunt, although Sonko did test Zoetebier just past the hour mark, although the Feyenoord keeper was alert to the danger. Ono was in the hunt again on 75, but his shot was too hurried to cause much commotion. Lazovic came on for Buffel and played a leading role in the final push. Indeed, the Serb was involved in the best chance to secure all three points, when he broke with Kuyt and Lurling against a single home defender. Despite a bit of a mix up, the ball fell to the feet of Lurling, but he was unable to find anything but the side netting. And after another opportunity for Ono in injury time was wasted the game ended without any further scoring.
