It was a first home defeat of the season, as Feyenoord went down 1-3 to PSV at the Kuip Sunday. The result means there¡¯s already a six-point gap between the clubs this early in the campaign. The home side¡¯s goal came from Thomas Buffel, after Kezman had handed PSV an early lead, but even Hossam Ghaly¡¯s second-half introduction couldn¡¯t stop the rot, as Kezman (again) and Vennegoor netted for the visitors.

Ono and Van Wonderen both started as the match kicked off at a packed Kuip. The game shifted through the gears in the early minutes, as it became clear how high the stakes were for both sides. De Nooijer, who had picked up a yellow card on four minutes, lunged at Kezman not long after and the Serbian retaliated with a neck-hold on the defender using his legs. Both were lucky to continue. The incident was characteristic of the commitment both teams showed in a first half in which PSV asked a lot of questions of Feyenoord. And in the seventh minute, the visitors got the opening goal, as Kezman benefited from some lacklustre home defending to score. Feyenoord didn¡¯t wilt under the pressure however and the home side was level on twenty, when Kuyt made some space for himself on the left and Buffel turned in his cross on the far post for the equaliser. Feyenoord continued to create chances, but were a little too nonchalant at the back. Indeed PSV might have regained the lead on twenty-seven when both Park and Vennegoor of Hesselink saw efforts strike the bar within sixty seconds. Yet before the teams retired for the break, Feyenoord might have snatched a goal of their own, but a Kuyt/Ono/Buffel breakaway didn¡¯t put anything on the board. Hossam Ghaly came on at the start of the second half to make his official debut for the Rotterdammers. He replaced De Nooijer, as Song reverted to left back and took up a position on the right. In spite of the switch, PSV scored not long after the turnaround as a free kick from the left was turned in by Kezman for his hundredth career goal. And it was almost three (and one hundred and one) two minutes later, but this time Zoetebier foiled the Serbian. With time running down, Van Marwijk first brought on Van Persie for Pardo, then Lazovic for Van Wonderen, but it was PSV that grabbed the next goal. Vennegoor of Hesselink turned Van den Berg in the penalty area and smashed the ball in to the net on seventy-four minutes to make it 1-3. Feyenoord might have had a penalty late on when Waterreus sent Kuyt a-tumbling in the box, but play was waved on and in the end the home side left the field with little to show for the afternoon¡¯s efforts.
