COLLEN READY TO THE OFF

Pieter Collen has finally shaken off the ankle injury that kept the defender out of the thick of things for close on nine months. ‘Put the flags out!’ laughed a relieved Collen after receiving the good news from Dr Martens in Antwerp Thursday afternoon. ‘I felt things were going well. Now nothing is standing in the way of my comeback. I will have to get up to match fitness with a few games in the reserves though.’

It’s been a tough old two years at Feyenoord for Pieter Collen. The Belgian tore a stomach muscle in year one to blow any chance of making an impression on the first team and once he’d recovered from that he picked up an ankle injury that just seemed to go from bad to worse when Collen was found to have a piece of detached bone floating around. ’I’ve had my share of bad luck. Now I can finally focus on football and it’s about time. Doctor Martens has given me the green light to go full out. And that’s what I’m going to do.’
