ONO RETURNS TO THE KUIP ON MONDAY

Shinji Ono is set to return to the Kuip Monday, confirmed coach Van Marwijk in his Friday press call. The Japanese has been using the Dutch FA’s facilities in Zeist latterly, to recover from an injury that has plagued him through the summer recess. ‘He’ll be training in Rotterdam as of Monday, initially with Toine van de Goolberg. I expect him to be ready to join the squad in three weeks or so,’ explained Van Marwijk.

Ono’s return to the first team is expected to take even longer of course. ‘If he joins the squad again in three weeks he’ll have been out of action for around three months. You can’t bridge that gap just like that. You have to build up some rhythm first.’
