ELMANDER SET FOR FEYENOORD RETURN

Johan Elmander will rejoin his Feyenoord teammates on 7 July for the first day of training at the Kuip on the back of an announcement that the striker’s loan period with Allsvenskan champions Djurgården is not to be extended. That said, the youngster’s future remains unsettled and the Swede may have a new employer before the season gets going. A number of clubs have already flagged up their interest in the Swedish international.

Elmander took the Stockholm posting at the start of last season after his early promise waned and the youngster quickly found his feet at Djurgården. His goals helped the club to the Swedish title in 1993. Elmander’s performances even earned him a call up to the national team. The 22-year-old joined Feyenoord during the 2000-1 campaign, scoring only two goals in two campaigns, although he also grabbed two goals in the Champions League, including a fine individual effort at Bayern Munich.
