KFA NOT GOING FOR SONG

Chong-Gug Song has been given the go-ahead by the Korean football association to miss the East Asia football championship. The Feyenoorder had received a callup for the prestigious eight-day tournament that kicks off in Japan 28 May, but the Rotterdammers were keen to keep the player in Holland, as Feyenoord is set to play FC Utrecht in the cup final and Roda JC in the last game of the Eredivisie season that very week.

The international tourney is not part of the official FIFA calendar, which means that the club is not obliged to release its players. After cordial consultations between Feyenoord and the KFA, the latter announced that it would not insist on the player’s attendance. The decision follows hot on the heels of similarly good news from across the Sea of Japan, or the Straits of Korea depending on where you’re coming from, that the Japanese FA would not be asking Shinji Ono to make the long trip east for the same competition.
