VAN HOOIJDONK CLEARED, VAN PERSIE FREE TO PLAY

Great news from Zeist Friday morning: Pierre van Hooijdonk has been completely cleared by the KNVB’s appeal committee. The ruling follows a protracted hearing Thursday. The committee said it did ‘not doubt’ the statements of the various parties, but emphasised that its job was to interpret the incident as a whole, judging that what happened in the Amstel Cup semi did not warrant a red card or a suspension.

Robin van Persie was also given the green light to play in Sunday’s home game against RKC ahead of his appeal, which has been set for next Thursday.
