Dirk Kuyt will join Feyenoord on 1 July. The player expressed his delight after FC Utrecht’s 3-1 Amstel Cup win at Excelsior. ‘I am very proud,’ said Kuyt, who reached agreement with chairman Jorien van den Herik on a contact Tuesday afternoon. ‘I feel that Feyenoord is the club where I belong; it’s a bit like Utrecht on a large scale.' The 22-year-old striker confirmed that he had signed a four-year contract.

‘It all took a little longer because Van den Herik was abroad. He was there today and together with my agent Piet Buter we agreed the last details and signed the contract. It is a real relief for me. I’m going to a top club and that’s a great feeling. Ajax was also interested, but Feyenoord is simply the club I’d rather join. It suits me and my way of playing. I’m someone who always gives hundred percent and never renegades. That is Utrecht and that is certainly Feyenoord.' The striker also asserted that he would be forming a duo with Pierre van Hooijdonk up front. ‘That would be fantastic, because Pierre is a wonderful teacher to have with all that experience and personality. I think we can form a good duo, although I don’t want to do down Robin van Persie and Thomas Buffel. There’ll be good competition for places.' Before Dirk Kuyt pulls on the red and white shirt of Feyenoord, he’ll have to face his future employee once, maybe twice in Rotterdam, with a league game and a possible Amstel Cup final on the cards. ‘I’ll be doing my utmost to finish my time at Utrecht on a high, so I won’t be missing those games against Feyenoord!'.
