ACUÑA BAGS FEYENOORD SWITCH

Feyenoord and Universidad Católica shook hands on a deal Tuesday that brings Jorge 'Kike' Acuña to Feyenoord. The Chilean midfielder can now look forward to signing a three-and-a-half year contract with the Rotterdammers, with an option for one more season. At the moment the 24-year-old is back home in South America waiting for a work permit, but expressed his delight by telephone. ‘This is a dream come true!’

‘This is what I wanted,’ said a delighted Acuña at home in Santiago de Chile. ‘I was ready to do anything to sign a contract with Feyenoord and I’ll soon be doing so. I am very grateful to Bert van Marwijk and Rob Baan for this chance they have given me and I will repay them on the pitch.' It is unclear how long Acuña will have to wait before returning to Rotterdam. In any event not soon enough for the international. ‘I hope things will be all done within a week. But I can hardly wait and I am really looking forward to a packed Kuip. I’d like to say to the Feyenoord supporters that I am enormously proud that I will soon be wearing their club’s shirt. I will not disgrace it and I’ll give everything I have.'
