L'AMI AND LODEWIJKS GET COLD START

As the cold snap continued in Rotterdam, Carlo l'Ami returned to training early Friday morning, followed by Patrick Lodewijks, who resumed keeper training with Pim Doesburg. ‘But I’m not completely free of pain,’ Lodewijks admitted. Still feeling the effects of a shoulder injury, l'Ami is restricted to running for the time being. Doctor Van Linschoten has already gone on record saying the goalie needs another four weeks to get back to full fitness.

For Patrick Lodewijks the wait will not be so long. Feyenoord’s second-seed goalkeeper will shuffle up a place in the pecking order on the club’s Canary Islands training camp, as top bird Edwin Zoetebier is not travelling. Lodewijks played through the pain barrier to keep goal in the final two games before the winter break, but things didn’t come cheaply. ‘I experienced a big reaction after those league games, but the injections have improved things. I will experience some pain, but you recover faster in the heat of Spain,’ joked Lodewijks.
